Happy Thanksgiving

While it is never easy to be away from family during the holiday's, Greg and I had a wonderful Thanksgiving here in New York. I didn't have to work this past week, and Greg had a short week which was so nice and it gave me time to prepare to host Thanksgiving dinner for some of the other medical students and their spouses who also didn't get to go home.

Teresa was our house guest starting Wednesday night to help me make pies, side dishes, turkey, and ham. Thanksgiving morning Greg was a good sport (he has been getting over a cold the kids have given him on his pediatric rotation) and got up with me and Teresa at 4:30am to go watch The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. We lucked out with great weather and it was fun to see all the balloons so close, but next year I will enjoy it in my PJ's at home!

That evening we had a big pot luck dinner, everyone brought so much food and the company was a lot of fun. I have included pictures from dinner and a short video from the parade. I hope everyone else had a wonderful Thanksgiving too!

Happy Halloween

We are really enjoying our first fall out here. The weather and watching the trees change just make us happy. Last night it was really neat to see how the kids trick-or-treat here. Greg and I walked to dinner and it turned out to be entertaining. Some people come out and sit on their stoops and hand out candy, but mainly the kids go into all the shops along the main streets and trick-or-treat. It is funny to see kids go into your local chinese restaurant and ask for candy. Then there was a small but impressive parade.

Our good friend Britney had a Halloween/Birthday Party last night, which was so fun. Riding the train over and looking at everyone was interesting. Greg's costume kept changing through out the night (see pictures). And I was a NYC tourist (fanny pack and all). Happy Halloween!

For a Good Cause

Greg and I are now 30, and I am proud to say we are both pushing ourselves into new goals.

I ran my first 5K, Race for the Cure in September, a week after my 30th birthday. I have never been a runner, and this was a huge accomplishment for me. Teresa was my running mate, and we kept each other going. I had my doubts that I would run the entire time, but I did and we made good time! And what a great memory that my first 5K was in Central Park. The entire event was very special to me, not only because I reached a personal goal of finishing a 5K but that my Grandma Moon is a Breast Cancer Survivor. Our next run is in December, I guess I have a new hobby, and my new goal is for next year to run a 10K.

This weekend Greg cycled in Bike MS. He finished the 66 mile course and raised over $500 in honor of his sister Jamie who has MS. We are proud to support her (love ya Jamie) and Greg enjoyed his ride through NYC and New Jersey, getting to see the area in a new way on his bike. His goal next year is to ride to 100 mile.

The Big 30!

Well, it's official I'm 30!
This birthday has been so much fun! Greg was sweet and bought me flowers and a mani/pedi for my big day. My family has been great with birthday gifts galore, I feel very spoiled. Work even paid for a car service to take me home to get ready for my birthday party, which was so nice. (I love cars).
Since Teresa and I are finally living in the same city, we got to have a real birthday party together. Who would have guessed our 30th would be in NYC.... Teresa found a great restaurant on the Lower East Side called Gino's. It was so touching to have all our friends come out and celebrate with us. The food was fantastic and the wine was great. Thank you to everyone for your love and helping make my day so special. It was a great way to start off my 30's!
Here is a link to photo's taken of the party by our good friend Jonathan. I have posted a few of my favorites below.

Delaware Water Gap

Greg and I decided we had had enough of the concrete jungle and crowed streets. We needed to get out of the city and see some green. A few weeks ago we took a bus and in an hour and a half we were in Delaware Water Gap, PA. It felt so good to be in a sleepy little town away from the noise and all the people. We were surrounded by green grass, trees, and the Pocono Mts. After checking into the hotel we headed out for a hike on the near by Appalachian Trail. It was a good hike, it lasted a little too long because Greg and I thought we had found a short cut that ended up being a dead end, so we had to back track about an hour. I was getting a little grumpy, but finally we made it back to the hotel and hit the pool, which was such a treat! Other than going out to eat that night, Greg and I were just lazy. It was nice to do nothing but relax. I know now why every weekend in the summer New Yorkers get out of the city, it just helps.

Jess & Ethan Come to NYC

My older sister and her new baby came to visit for a week. We had such a wonderful time, I hated to see her and the baby go. I made a video of our week of fun together. Check it out.
