Our New Apartment

A few weeks ago Greg and I moved to a new apartment. We decided to downgrade to a smaller place to save a little money. Moving day turned out to be a disaster. The movers were 3 hours late, there was a moment when I was almost in tears when I was told my couches would not fit through the narrow hallway (they barely squeezed in, but they made it), and once everything was in the apartment Greg and I could hardly move around all our stuff- the new place was a little smaller than we expected. We had to get rid of somethings and we got creative with storage, but eventually everything found its place. We may have a little less space but house guests are still welcome! And good news to anyone coming over we are only a 3 minute walk from the train, much closer than the last place. Take a look!

Happy Thanksgiving

While it is never easy to be away from family during the holiday's, Greg and I had a wonderful Thanksgiving here in New York. I didn't have to work this past week, and Greg had a short week which was so nice and it gave me time to prepare to host Thanksgiving dinner for some of the other medical students and their spouses who also didn't get to go home.

Teresa was our house guest starting Wednesday night to help me make pies, side dishes, turkey, and ham. Thanksgiving morning Greg was a good sport (he has been getting over a cold the kids have given him on his pediatric rotation) and got up with me and Teresa at 4:30am to go watch The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. We lucked out with great weather and it was fun to see all the balloons so close, but next year I will enjoy it in my PJ's at home!

That evening we had a big pot luck dinner, everyone brought so much food and the company was a lot of fun. I have included pictures from dinner and a short video from the parade. I hope everyone else had a wonderful Thanksgiving too!

Happy Halloween

We are really enjoying our first fall out here. The weather and watching the trees change just make us happy. Last night it was really neat to see how the kids trick-or-treat here. Greg and I walked to dinner and it turned out to be entertaining. Some people come out and sit on their stoops and hand out candy, but mainly the kids go into all the shops along the main streets and trick-or-treat. It is funny to see kids go into your local chinese restaurant and ask for candy. Then there was a small but impressive parade.

Our good friend Britney had a Halloween/Birthday Party last night, which was so fun. Riding the train over and looking at everyone was interesting. Greg's costume kept changing through out the night (see pictures). And I was a NYC tourist (fanny pack and all). Happy Halloween!

Mom and Grandma come to NYC

My Mom and Grandma came for a visit this October. We had such a good time site seeing and eating our way through NYC. I have made a video of all our fun. Enjoy!

For a Good Cause

Greg and I are now 30, and I am proud to say we are both pushing ourselves into new goals.

I ran my first 5K, Race for the Cure in September, a week after my 30th birthday. I have never been a runner, and this was a huge accomplishment for me. Teresa was my running mate, and we kept each other going. I had my doubts that I would run the entire time, but I did and we made good time! And what a great memory that my first 5K was in Central Park. The entire event was very special to me, not only because I reached a personal goal of finishing a 5K but that my Grandma Moon is a Breast Cancer Survivor. Our next run is in December, I guess I have a new hobby, and my new goal is for next year to run a 10K.

This weekend Greg cycled in Bike MS. He finished the 66 mile course and raised over $500 in honor of his sister Jamie who has MS. We are proud to support her (love ya Jamie) and Greg enjoyed his ride through NYC and New Jersey, getting to see the area in a new way on his bike. His goal next year is to ride to 100 mile.

The Big 30!

Well, it's official I'm 30!
This birthday has been so much fun! Greg was sweet and bought me flowers and a mani/pedi for my big day. My family has been great with birthday gifts galore, I feel very spoiled. Work even paid for a car service to take me home to get ready for my birthday party, which was so nice. (I love cars).
Since Teresa and I are finally living in the same city, we got to have a real birthday party together. Who would have guessed our 30th would be in NYC.... Teresa found a great restaurant on the Lower East Side called Gino's. It was so touching to have all our friends come out and celebrate with us. The food was fantastic and the wine was great. Thank you to everyone for your love and helping make my day so special. It was a great way to start off my 30's!
Here is a link to photo's taken of the party by our good friend Jonathan. I have posted a few of my favorites below.

Delaware Water Gap

Greg and I decided we had had enough of the concrete jungle and crowed streets. We needed to get out of the city and see some green. A few weeks ago we took a bus and in an hour and a half we were in Delaware Water Gap, PA. It felt so good to be in a sleepy little town away from the noise and all the people. We were surrounded by green grass, trees, and the Pocono Mts. After checking into the hotel we headed out for a hike on the near by Appalachian Trail. It was a good hike, it lasted a little too long because Greg and I thought we had found a short cut that ended up being a dead end, so we had to back track about an hour. I was getting a little grumpy, but finally we made it back to the hotel and hit the pool, which was such a treat! Other than going out to eat that night, Greg and I were just lazy. It was nice to do nothing but relax. I know now why every weekend in the summer New Yorkers get out of the city, it just helps.

Jess & Ethan Come to NYC

My older sister and her new baby came to visit for a week. We had such a wonderful time, I hated to see her and the baby go. I made a video of our week of fun together. Check it out.

Coney Island

We'll we finally made it out to Coney Island. It seemed every weekend in memory has been raining. So the last weekend in June I talked Teresa, Greg, and Britney into going. How to describe Coney Island....hmmm...... it was unique. Nathan's hot dogs were great, eating yummy ice cream on the boardwalk and people watching is very entertaining, the beach itself not so great and the water is frigid. No one felt up to getting on any of the ancient carnival rides, except me. Greg was convinced one of us would die or at minimum become seriously injured. Oh well. I'm glad we went, one more site-seeing place to check off the list.

A little bit of Texas in NYC

Every year NYC has BBQ Block Party, AND The Salt Lick (the best BBQ in Texas) had a booth! So Teresa, Meredith (her roommate), Greg, and I took off to get a little taste of home. The block party was packed, it was a little too much, but Teresa and I were determined. We finally found the booth, and there was a volunteer closing the line, saying the Salt Lick was closed. NOOOOOO! There was a bunch of us standing around not happy (including a guy who drove all day from upstate NY because he was from Austin). The volunteer continued to tell us the Salt Lick was out of brisket so they were closed. I looked over and saw plenty of coleslaw, sausage, and their famous BBQ sauce, so I turned to the bossy volunteer and asked if I could just wait in line for what they did have. She got nasty and said " Sure, wait in line for 40 minutes to get no food, see if I care". I gave her a smile and said thanks. Her rudeness paid off because she turned away so many people Teresa and I only had to wait 10 minutes before grabbing our wonderful BBQ. Despite all the drama, everything tasted wonderful and I was happy. Now only if they could have a Tex-Mex block party..... maybe Polvos would come.

6 Years

Greg and I celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary a few weekends ago. I still cant believe its been that long! We had a wonderful weekend. Greg took me out to dinner to an Italian restaurant in Chelsea and then dessert at Max Brenner. Check out this website, this place is amazing! http://www.maxbrenner.com/
Of course I forgot the camera , so we used Greg's iPhone, not the best pictures but better than nothing.

Memorial Day & Girl Time

Greg's 3rd year of medical school has started, which means a lot of our friends have recently moved to NYC. Over Memorial Day weekend we were able to have a nice picnic in Central Park with our good friends Sara and AJ, and Teresa. It was also Fleet Week so it was fun to see the sailors walking around in their white uniforms. Even though it was a sunny day, there was a cool breeze, I still can't get over how cool it is in the early part of summer.

Then a week later Teresa, Greg, and I took a field trip to the Brooklyn Bridge. We walked across the bridge, Teresa took some really cool pictures, and then at the end we walked to a nearby ice cream shop. Yum!

This past weekend was fun, a group of us girls got together for Saturday brunch. We finally got to meet Emily's new baby, he is precious! Then Teresa and I continued the day with some shopping and happy hour. I love having her here.

Never, Ever Run to the Train

Some of you may know, but I am clumsy at times. I have a rule here that I have kept to myself, but while commuting despite how late I am running and how much I hate waiting for trains.... the rule is NEVER, EVER RUN to a train. In order to get to the train I either have to go up or down stairs and with my luck and coordination running is just not worth it.
Well I guess I failed to share this rule with Greg. Today we were heading to my company's employee appreciation happy hour and we approached our subway stop. As we were going down the stairs we heard a train approaching. Greg begins to run down the stairs telling met to hurry.
I thought for a brief minute, no.... I should tell him my rule, but quickly changed my mind.
Instead I began to run down the stairs..... big mistake..... the right heal of my shoe caught on the left side of my pants, twisting me up and BAM... down I went (are you laughing right now, because I am). My arm gets caught in the railing as I try to brace myself for the fail, attempting to make it as graceful as possible, but it was bad. Smack my head and knee hit the wall as I went tumbling down. Greg being 5 feet ahead turns around at me shouting "WHAO, WHAO"! He comes and picks me up off the nasty subway floor, I am now positive that I have some nastiness, and he asks me if I am okay.
I say NO! I am dizzy, then he asked if I want to go home, I say NO! and miss a free happy hour... are you crazy. At this time the train we were running for was not our train..... making the entire episode worthless. But now that I have recovered from my dizziness, we realize our train is here, so on we go. I pretend not to notice the people starring at me, and I even begin to giggle to myself as I realize I, an adult, have just fallen down a set of stairs in public..... I turn to Greg and inform him that I NEVER, EVER run to the Train. That is the rule.

Teresa is Here!

Yeah Teresa is finally here! We had such a great first weekend. We had some other friends in town and it turned into a big reunion weekend. Lots of great food and good company. We decided on Saturday to do a little site seeing, but it turned out to be a crazy windy day. Check out our hair from the ride on the Staten Island Ferry to see the St. of Liberty.
